About Me

Hello! I’m David. I love technology and I believe that when used at its best, it has the power to enhance our lives.

Whether it is the websites we visit, the devices we use or the infrastructure we take for granted, the technology sector has a responsibility to ensure that it keeps pace with society, and remains relevant to those that can benefit most.

Experience

Consultant

Jun 2022 - Present FDM Group

  • I joined the FDM Returners Programme where I was able to refresh my skills and gain qualifications in Project Delivery and Business Analysis.
  • I was then successfully placed as a Business Analyst for a luxury fashion house where I am working to deliver a data migration project for one of their internal teams.

Career Break

Dec 2019 - Jun 2022

  • I took a career break for personal development, later moving to Scotland to assist with family care-giving.

Platform Engineering Manager

Feb 2017 - Dec 2019 Egress Software Technologies Previously Technical Operations Manager and Technical Operations Team Leader

  • I created a new team with responsibility for customer infrastructure, growing this to a team of 9 in multiple locations across the UK and North America.
  • I led on multiple digital transformation projects including migrations to AWS and Azure, removing legacy technology such as Windows Server 2008 and utilising technology such as containers to provide a platform served from “as a service” products.
  • I created additional data points for our monitoring platform using bespoke scripts in Python and Powershell to identify unreliable service elements. Following this, I was able to make a business case to move to a multi-tenanted service to improve reliability and reduce time spent maintaining the platform.
  • I used my analysis skills to make additional cost savings of over 30% by optimising our use of Reserved Instances, instance resizing, and prioritising cost ineffective instances for migration.

Technical Services Engineer

Oct 2014 - Jan 2017 Egress Software Technologies

  • I was the technical contact for Egress’ customers to ensure that appropriate products were selected in addition to managing the deployment, configuration and adoption rates.
  • I identified my customers’ risk of data leaks, presenting this alongside appropriate mitigation actions and industry best practice to senior stakeholders. This allowed me to up-sell an increased service provision, including site wide licences and additional product lines - often increasing contract value by 500%.
  • I worked closely with the Development teams to feed back feature requests and bug reports and also ensured any workarounds were included to assist the QA of bespoke setups. Following my feature requests of internal risk analysis tools, this led us to recreate this with the intention of selling this to customers as an additional service.
  • Winner of the “All Star Award” in Q4 2015; an award made to identify the highest performing individuals in the business each quarter.

Vice President (Activities and Devlopment)

Jun 2011 - Jun 2012 University of Bath Students' Union

  • Elected to the role from a cross campus ballot to act as a student representative and a charitable trustee of the Students’ Union. I was responsible for the co-ordination of all societies in addition to all enterprise and personal development schemes within the Students' Union.
  • Successfully lobbied the University for additional storage space for student groups, improved sustainability obtaining a Gold “Green Impact” award, and made it easier for students to identify their personal development by adding tiers with progression checkpoints to the “Bath Award”.
